Chances are, your Mac can run macOS Big Sur
Since macOS Catalina, iPhoto has stopped working completely on Macs. The new Apple unveil, Photos, has proved to be even better for photo storage and organization, and once you upgrade, there is no going back. If you don’t have the latest version of Photos, it is either because you have an outdated computer running pre-Mojave. The latest: Apple releases macOS Catalina 10.15.5 update. Apple released an update for macOS Catalina that includes the new Battery Health Managment feature for MacBooks, and a new option to turn. Click on the Apple logo in the top left corner and select “App Store”. When the Store launches, click on the “Purchases” tab. Click on the “UPDATE” button next to iPhoto and wait for the app to be updated. In the image below, the button says “OPEN” as the app has already been updated on my Mac. If you already know that iPhoto is not going to work in Catalina, you might want to backup your iPhoto photos to an external hard drive before you proceed with the Mac update. This is actually the best way to keep your photos safe as well as easy to import into the Photos app when the update is installed. The iPhoto Library Upgrader prepares libraries from iPhoto '08 (v7.x) or earlier so that you can use them with the current version of iPhoto or Photos for OS X. If your library was created by iPhoto '09 (v8.x) or later, you don't need to use this tool.

If you’re running any release from macOS 10.13 to 10.9, you can upgrade to macOS Big Sur from the App Store. If you’re running Mountain Lion 10.8, you will need to upgrade to El Capitan 10.11 first.
